Southern Tasmania is far from devoid of fishing waters; it's just that
the north has so many more. Even so, the tributaries of the Derwent, the
Coal River, the Huon River and a few others are well worthy of
attention. In addition the lower Derwent power development scheme has
provided several new reservoirs of considerable size within easy reach
of Hobart. A number of lagoons and ponds also have been stocked and
these are sometimes productive. Hobart anglers are naturally regular
visitors to the Central Plateau, a drive of 130km taking them
well into the lake country where many have built weekend huts.
